The Tatado Beach Hills Resort

A private estate on a forested crest blessed with citrus groves, The Tatado Beach Hills Resort overlooks Shimoda Bay, where Commodore Perry’s Black Ships landed in 1854, opening Japan to the world.

The unfolding “fan” shape of the hotel building reflects the curve of the crescent cove, and provides each individual townhouse with stunning views while ensuring privacy.  Dark ceramic shingles of weathered tone suggest passage of time and historic change. Expressed internally as well, they alternate with rendered blade walls to accentuate each fan facet.

Each unit of the Hotel offers expansive open plan living spaces extending to broad balconies with panoramic ocean views. A spiral stair winds up to the ensuite master bedroom, adjoined by two bedrooms convertible to either a grand tatami room, or separate bedroom and study. Outdoor decks feature jacuzzis elevated above private lawns, offering an ideal setting for dining and entertainment.
