Riken Yamamoto was awarded the Pritzker Prize for Architecture on March 5. He is the eighth Japanese to receive this prestigious distinction. “Despite its prestige” writes Arnaud, “Japanese architecture does not occupy a predominant place in his country. Away from major projects, architects find refuge in private and foreign commissions.”
Riccardo Tossani provides commentary on key projects in the context of state architecture and the profession in Japan.
